Six Month Smiles FAQ's

Q: Six months sounds good, but will I have a mouth full of metal braces for the whole time?

A: No! Six Month Smiles uses tooth-coloured wires and clear ceramic braces that are barely visible, gently straightening your teeth while you get on with your life.

Q. How does Six Month Smiles work?

A: Re-aligning the entire bite can take up to 24 months, but Six Months Smiles uses the latest dental technology and techniques, focusing on the teeth that are most visible when you smile. This way, you can have a beautiful new smile in next to no time!

Q: How are Six Month Smiles braces more comfortable than regular braces?

A: Six Month Smiles uses low force to move teeth gently. Many people falsely believe that the accelerated braces treatment means simply “tightening” regular braces to get the teeth moving. Six Month Smiles utilises standard orthodontic mechanics, but with an emphasis on the cosmetic appearance of your teeth rather than the position of your bite.

Q: Do Six Month Smiles braces damage the teeth, roots or gums?

A: There are no more risks of root damage or other issues than those associated with traditional orthodontics. As the force used with Six Month Smiles braces is lighter and teeth are seldom extracted, there are actually even fewer risks involved with Six Month Smiles.

Q: Will I have to wear a retainer?

A: Yes, as with any teeth-straightening treatment a retainer is necessary to maintain the straighter position of your teeth. If you don’t want to wear a removable retainer, you can have a bonded retainer placed. There are a variety of options that you can choose from according to your personal preference and situation. We would be happy to advise and help with any questions you may have.

Q: What's the catch?

A: There is no catch. If you are 15 years and older, with crooked or spaced teeth and you're not looking for a major alteration to your bite, this could be the solution for you! Most adults are candidates for Six Month Smiles so go on, give us a call!

Invisible braces

Many people who are unhappy with their smile may be too nervous to talk to their dentist. They may hate the thought of wearing metal braces or may be concerned that the corrective procedure could be too invasive or too expensive. The great news is that there is an easy, affordable answer to your uneven or overcrowded teeth issue.  Long gone are the days where ‘train track’ braces were the only option.

Clear Aligners offer a system that is practically invisible because their clear splint is transparent and smooth, and better still it has no screws or brackets! The result is an attractive, new smile that you will want to show off.

The Clear Aligner need not interfere with your life or cramp your style. In fact, most people you see would be unaware that your teeth are being straightened. You can talk and laugh as normal without feeling self-conscious. Due to the fact that there are no screws and wires the Clear Aligner has a very comfortable feel in your mouth, and when you eat you can simply pop it out.

Now is the time to start feeling better about your smile. If you are looking for a clear, comfortable solution to gently move your teeth into position, Clear Aligners could be the solution you have been looking for.

Invisible Braces FAQs

How does it work?

We individually manufactured the aligners for your teeth. With each aligner your teeth will move until they have reached the required position.

How often do i have to wear the aligners

You will need to wear aligners for at least 22 hours a day during the course of the treatment. You can remove them to eat and clean your teeth.

Does it hurt?

Patients may find they need to take mild painkillers for the first week or so and it may cause you to salivate more than usual for 24 to 48 hours. You should however get use to the retainer quite quickly.

Can i eat or drink while wearing the aligners

You can remove the aligners when eat.

How long do i need to wear the aligners

Treatment times will vary depending on your particular requirements.

Inman Aligner

The Inman Aligner system uses a removable spring loaded aligner to gently but continuously apply pressure to the teeth. Teeth can be straighter in as little as 6 - 16 weeks.  After your initial visit where impressions will be taken you will be provided with an Aligner, you will need to return to the practice every two weeks so that we can review your progress.  At the end of the treatment a retainer will be placed to keep your teeth in their new position.  The Inman Aligner is the perfect solution to straighten crowded, crooked or misaligned front teeth.

It is fast, very safe and great value compared to other systems and because it's removable, you can take it out to fit your lifestyle. It is barely visible, apart from a single clear wire, and it is a removable orthodontic appliance, allowing the wearer to go brace-free for important occasions - so no worrying about looking your best for that special event!

Inman Aligner FAQ's

How does it work?

The Inman Aligner utilises a lingual coil spring that puts pressure at the back of the teeth that need repositioning.  A bar placed across the front of the teeth reverses the same pressure. These components work together to "squeeze" teeth together by pushing and pulling them into alignment.

How long does it take?

The fitting of the aligner requires one half hour appointment, followed by bi-weekly 15-minute check-ups. Treatment can be achieved between 6 to 16 weeks.

Does it hurt?

Patients may find they need to take mild painkillers for the first week or so. Like anything foreign to your mouth, it may cause you to salivate more than usual for 24 to 48 hours and could affect your speech for 7 to 10 days.

Is the Inman Aligner new?

Patients have been treated with Inman Aligners since 2000. In the United States more than 500 new patients opt for the Inman Aligner treatment each month.

Is the Inman Aligner comparable to Invisalign?

No, the Inman Aligner is used for treating the top and bottom front teeth only. Invisalign® can treat all of your teeth.

Will the treatment with the Inman Aligner be uncomfortable?

No. Due to the gentle but steady orthodontic forces generated, the appliances are easily tolerated. Your dentist may suggest aspirin for the first few days of treatment if you encounter any discomfort.

Will i need to visit the dentist for adjustments?

The Inman Aligners are pre-programmed to reduce the need for dental visits. Your dentist will prescribe
a treatment due to your needs.
